2-07 Resting
This is based on the drawing from
1-22-07, At Rest. It is my first oil pastel and I can see that it will take some time to do satisfactory paintings in this medium. And like the scribbles, only less so, these paintings are stopped just short of being "finished." This is what my preference is for now. I want to scribble, sketch, and paint quickly and with enthusiasm without getting into any detail or representationalism. There are exaggerations in the depiction, symbolic for me regarding dancers.

1-13-07 In the Shadows
1-05-07 In a Flower
This is what it is like for me to sit in a flower. I become one with the flower and am totally absorbed by its feel, touch, smell, sight. It is a spiritual awakening of sorts. I like this one quite a bit and am doing an oil pastel painting based on it. I will post the painting later this month.
It, too, will be simple and hopefully fresh.

1-06-07 In Sandy's Garden & 1-06-07 Inlet

The inspiration for this one is a photo taken from Sandy's Garden. I am now looking at photos from where I get a place to start my scribbling and painting processes. I don't scribble or paint what is there in actuality. I just look, see, and then take off on my own meditative journey with the pencil, pen, or paint.

11-25-06 Kettle Cove

Same day....different view. I do not sketch what is in front of my eyes, what my eyes actually see. I use the sighting as a point of departure, adding and subtracting, creating what is not there, what might be there; tossing about these unseen aspects of my vision. And there is much more than vision involved in scribbling or any art making. All my senses vibrate with life and my feelings fly high and low, a normal day for me.
11-25-06 By the Cove

As the days of November pass us by I cannot help but be grateful for the good weather we have been having. I take Acadia, my hearing dog, and we go out to do some exploring.
We went to "By the Cove" again this day and were free with our scribbles. While not play, they are a way to open up one's creative chamber which holds grace, knowledge, excitement, anticipation, visualization, feelings, experiences, and one's own voice. There is alot more there too.

11-30-06 Harbor
11-23-06 End of the Path
This is one of my quickest of scribbles. I did this without looking at the paper, not watching where the pencil was moving or drawing. I get into a meditative and spiritual place when I do these, aware only of being within my senses and not doing or thinking anything.... just being.
